What are Liposomes?
Liposomes are microscopic fat balls with the width of one hair. They are made from phospholipids (which are part of all cell membranes). They carry a nutrient inside them called a cargo load. In this case, that nutrient is vitamin C.
When they come into contact with a human cell, the liposome and the cell merge, much like two bubbles may become one when they touch one another. In this way, the nutrient inside is released directly into the cell.
This process is called liposomal absorption. Our food and the drugs that we swallow are absorbed via intestinal absorption, which is very different. Intestinal absorption means that the food and medication need to be broken down to small molecules, which then enter the bloodstream via the cell walls of the stomach and intestine. They are transported to the liver and various other organs, which then put them back together into useable molecules. During this long and complex process, the vitamin C is often destroyed or discarded – at least to a significant degree. But, if this immune booster is protected by the liposomal layer, it does not get broken down or destroyed by the intestines or stomach. It can go straight to the cells. This fat layer also protects the digestive tract from being irritated by the ascorbic acid that normally causes pain and bloating.
